Indonesia’s Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno has announced this week a new TAX-FREE visa for digital nomads & remote workers. The new visa allows remote workers to live in Bali tax-free when their earnings come from another country.
“Now with the pandemic handled and all the ministries getting involved and cooperating from the health side to the immigration office, we believe that this is an opportune time to relaunch this idea,” Sandiaga Uno said.
The visa should bring in over 3.6 million overseas travellers as well as create up to one million jobs without taking any away from local Bali residents.
Bali attracts many digital nomads and freelancers due to its affordable cost of living and a tropical lifestyle, as the new visa takes effect, the country will see the continued growth of its economy, its tourism industry, and the Bali real estate market, and more.
This comes at a time that the World Bank has just released a report stating that Indonesia has one of the strongest economies of 2022 amid current global developments
“Indonesia’s economy continues to show its resilience amid the ongoing global friction,” the Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF) Head Febrio Kacaribu said.
The World Bank’s report entitled Global Economic Prospect June 2022, has linked Indonesia’s strong economy to its export of commodities, as well as the Central Government’s strong vaccination roll-out.
“The region of Berawa, Canggu has always been different than other parts of Bali,” said International Sales Executive Alexis Santafe. “More than just a tourist destination it is home to ex-pats and a big community of digital nomads which stay for many months at a time.”
Bali offers an affordable and elevated island lifestyle, with top restaurants and ultra-modern lifestyle facilities at affordable prices. There are obvious advantages over urban business cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and places in Europe, and North America.
“For those who are able to work remotely, it’s a great chance to enjoy a healthy island lifestyle. Berawa is already Asia’s capital for digital nomads – with this new visa it will significantly increase the numbers of long-term visitors on the island – which is great for the Bali real estate market,” Alexis continued to say.
